Shocking! Michelle Obama’s odds of winning presidency in 2024

Rumors abound on social media that Michelle Obama is replacing President Joe Biden on the Democratic presidential ticket in 2024. The craziness was probably started by right-wing propagandists intent on riling the Republican base by suggesting two Black women could don the Democratic ticket.

But Michelle, despite being very intelligent and likable, has no political experience and has never expressed an interest in running. Keep in mind, when former First Lady Hillary Clinton ran for president in 2016, she’d served as both a U.S. Senator and Secretary of State.

Nevertheless, despite Michelle’s lack of experience and presumed lack of interest, oddsmakers are favoring her for a potential presidential run. And here’s why…

The numbers, per Oddschecker, suggest she’d be the third most popular candidate, behind Biden and former President Donald Trump.

In fact, head-to-head she’d match up well against former President Trump and former U.N. Ambassador Niki Haley.

CANDIDATE HIGHEST ODDS IMPLIED % CHANCE
Donald Trump -120 54.5%
Joe Biden +175 36.4%
Michelle Obama +900 10.0%
Nikki Haley +1600 5.9%
Gavin Newsom +2500 3.8%
Robert Kennedy Jr. +3300 2.9%
Kamala Harris +5000 2.0%
Elizabeth Warren +10000 1.0%

But, don’t get any weird thoughts…

David Alexrod, a political consultant, analyst, and former White House official who is best known for being the chief strategist for Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns, stated:

“Michelle Obama loves this country. She’s a brilliant person and a brilliant communicator. But, she was a conscript to politics. She never was interested in a political life, even when Barack Obama was a young politician, she really didn’t participate much in his campaigns. I was with him in his Senate campaign in 2004, I think she showed up twice in the whole campaign on election nights.”

The conversation concluded with light-hearted banter about Axelrod donning a leotard if Michelle Obama were to run, illustrating the improbability of such a scenario.
