Poll: 57 percent of registered voters see political attacks on trans children, families as major problem

A recent Fox News poll revealed that more than half of registered voters see political attacks on transgender children and families as a major problem.

Specifically, 57 percent of respondents agreed that these attacks are a significant issue, while 26 percent considered them a minor problem, 15 percent felt that they were not problematic, and 3 percent were unsure.

The poll comes at a time when many states have passed legislation targeting the rights of LGBTQ individuals, such as Kansas, where Republican lawmakers overrode a veto from Democratic Governor Laura Kelly to approve a transgender bathroom bill that applies to school restrooms, locker rooms, prisons, and domestic violence shelters.

At least eight other states have similar bans on transgender students using school facilities consistent with their gender identity, while more than a dozen states have laws prohibiting youth from accessing gender-affirming care. In addition, 21 states have banned transgender students from participating in sports teams consistent with their gender identity.

The poll also found that 54 percent of respondents viewed female transgender athletes competing in women’s sports as a major problem, while 27 percent considered it a minor issue and 18 percent did not view it as problematic.

The survey involved phone interviews with 1,004 registered voters from April 21-24, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
