Melania Trump to attend fundraiser by pro-LGBTQ group – Christian nationalist fumes

The announcement of Melania Trump’s attendance at a fundraiser for the Log Cabin Republicans, a pro-LGBT group, has sparked frustration among some Christian Republicans. Jenna Ellis, a Trump attorney, expressed her protest against the Trumps’ involvement in the event, stating that it contradicts Christian beliefs. She argued that supporting LGBTQ causes goes against Christian principles, citing her interpretation of scripture.

Citing a Fox News article, Ellis said, “Melania’s first campaign fundraiser is a pro-LGBTQ Republican event.”

“This is an example of something Trump is doing that zero Christians can support,” Ellis added. “Even if you vote for him, which of course you should over Biden, Christ followers cannot support this… Where and when in conflict, I follow Christ over Trump.”

Ellis said, “No person who truly loves or follows Christ is pro-LGBTQ,” citing John 14:15.

Really?

And how many of us have never broken a Commandment?

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 3:23

And what about premarital sex? How many people are guilty of that, Jenna?

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8

And what two consenting adults do is their business anyway. A lot of these MAGA followers need to seriously work on their own dysfunctional relationships before being overly concerned with who someone else is sleeping with.

Ellis’s comments have triggered debate among conservatives, with some supporting her stance and others disagreeing, suggesting that interpretations of scripture and views on LGBTQ issues vary within the Christian community. This event highlights the ongoing tension within the Republican Party over issues related to LGBTQ rights and religious conservatism.

From a political standpoint, Melania’s public support of a pro-LBGTQ organization is a good move as the MAGA wing of the Republican Party is widely considered homophobic. As a result, look for Donald Trump’s campaign to quietly attempt to cozy up to LGBTQ groups in an effort to maintain or increase the support he’s found in that community.

The trick for them, however, is to do it in a way that doesn’t significantly offend the many MAGA homophobes.

In 2020, Trump only received about 27 percent of the LBGTQ vote. But, in a close election where a few thousand votes can be the difference between winning and losing in some states, an increase or decrease in LBGTQ support could have significant consequences.
